Dr. McArthur received his undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado and his medical degree from the University of Florida. He received his MBA in healthcare from the University of California, Irvine in 1997. He has been board-certified in Emergency Medicine for over 30 years. He was the cofounder of the Emergency Medicine Residency at Loma Linda University in 1984 and was the associate program director for the residency for 12 years. He served as the assistant medical director of the emergency department at a major teaching hospital, Riverside General Hospital in Riverside, California where he also became president of the medical staff. He has also served as the chairman of the emergency medicine department at another large teaching hospital, Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton, California. He was a member of the board of the California Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians for several years and became the president of the chapter. He was awarded the Walter T. Edwards Meritorious Service Award in 2003. He worked as a physician consultant in various locations while continuing the practice of emergency medicine. He is also board-certified in the subspecialty of Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine. More recently he has worked as an emergency physician and associate professor of emergency medicine and medicine at Loma Linda University Medical Center. He has over 40 years experience practicing emergency medicine. As a native Texan, he has relocated to the Dallas area where he lives with his wife.
